Medical recommendations

The human body is a ¨machine¨ and as such it is very important that all those runners who plan to carry out a high altitude or highly demanding race take into account the following medical recommendations. It is important to carry out a thorough medical check-up to prevent and detect any anomaly that may cause an accident or even death.

The Andes Race is a highly demanding trail running race. In case it starts at a great height and reaches peaks of over 4700m. That is why the examination that is carried out should comply with the minimum and essential to verify that everything is OK.

The Required Minimum Exams:

  1. Hemoglobin: we already know that it is a key piece for a good acclimatization. We have already discussed it in our recommendations on altitude sickness.
  2. Electrocardiogram: to detect any abnormality in the heart rate.
  3. Echo cardiogram: this is the only way to see if the heart has any physical abnormality.
  4. Effort Test: through this test we will be able to see what is the maximum limit of effort to which our heart can be subjected.

That is why we recommend that for your health and tranquility of your relatives and the organization of the Andes Race, well-done and conscientious exams be carried out.

We recommend you read about Acclimatization and Altitude Sickness.
